The Sound Movement

This week I’m working on my 2008 top 10 list (which I’ll be posting on the blog soon). I’ve also been reminiscing over my past year-end playlists. One release on the 2006 list stands out in particular… The Sound Movement “Ichi Go Ichi E.” I was certain this band would be HUGE by now! I haven’t seen or heard anyone talking about them in ages, so it’s time for a refresher…

The Sound Movement are Andrew Day (vocals/guitar), Kat (bass) and Graham Brown (drums). They started off in Melbourne, then moved to Tokyo, then Manchester, and finally to Camden. The excellent “Ichi Go Ichi E” was released on Truck Records (UK) in 2006 and looks like it will see a re-release on Pharmacy Records (Australia) next year. Pharmacy also released a few singles taken from the album this year, but I don’t see anywhere you can actually purchase them online. I hope a vinyl issue is also forthcoming.

Truck Records closed shop, but looks like Cargo UK still carries the CD. Order it here!

  1. Hi Ed,

Kat from The Sound Movement here. Stumbled across your blog. Thanks for the nice intro.
If you want to know why disappeared, its the usual story of being f’d over by record labels and promises (and contracts) being broken.
Anyway, if you are interested we are about to release a follow-up EP called ‘Memory and the Human Heart’ which will be available as a download. Then followed by a new single in June.
    Hope you’ll like it :)

    Katx

  2. Thanks Kat, I’ll definitely be getting the EP (and single) when it’s out. I just listened to the new songs on myspace. “Art of Leaving” is especially fantastic!

Sorry to hear about all the label trouble. It is a shame that happened to “Ichi Go Ichi E.” Will it be up for download on iTunes, eMusic, etc soon? I’m still keeping the torch burning for it!

  3. Hey again Ed,

Good to hear from you. Thanks for checking out the new material.Glad to have yr feedback :)

Within a week or so, we will be hosting our own online store (initially via 7-digital indie store then thru a cutomised shop) where we will be selling all of our releases, including Ichi Go (which never ended up being released in Aust bc the label went bust).

We have decided to be in control from now on and sell our music ourselves. And of course we will put it up on itunes and all the usual suspects such as emusic etc as well.

So by sometime next week, all going to plan, the EP will be available and the single available for pre-order. Let us know what you think wont you?

thanks for the burning torch :) it warms our hearts and brings big smiles
